§ 1 — How we can help

  • Traffic accidents & road law — Full claims handling with the insurer: repair, expert report, rental car, compensation for injuries. Defence against fines and driving bans.
  • Landlord & tenant law — Rental contracts, termination notices, deposits, service charge statements — for tenants and landlords.
  • Family law — Divorce, child custody and support under German law — led by a certified specialist (Fachanwältin für Familienrecht).
  • Employment law — Termination, severance negotiations, employment contracts and references — with a three-week deadline for dismissal claims.
  • Criminal defence — Representation from the first police summons onwards. As a suspect you are not obliged to testify — talk to a defence lawyer first.
  • Inheritance law — Wills, estates and compulsory shares (Pflichtteil) under German law, including cross-border situations.

We advise on German law. We do not advise on U.S. law or military justice matters — where useful, we cooperate with the appropriate offices and interpreters.

§ 2 — Good to know: German law in plain English

Can I get legal advice in English?

Yes. Consultations at our office are available in English. Please note that court proceedings in Germany are conducted in German — we prepare all filings, explain every document and guide you through each step of the process.

Who pays my lawyer after a car accident that was not my fault?

Under German law, if the other driver is at fault, their liability insurance must cover your reasonable legal fees as part of the damage — along with repair costs, a rental car or loss of use, and compensation for pain and suffering. In practice this means hiring your own lawyer usually costs you nothing in a clear-liability case, and you should never rely solely on the other side's insurer to assess your claim.

How much does a first consultation cost?

For consumers, the fee for an initial consultation is capped by statute at a maximum of €190 plus expenses and VAT (Sec. 34 of the German Attorney Remuneration Act, RVG), unless a different fee is agreed. If you have German legal expenses insurance (Rechtsschutzversicherung), we will handle the coverage request with your insurer for you.

I received a termination letter (Kündigung) from my employer — what now?

Act quickly: an unfair dismissal claim (Kündigungsschutzklage) must be filed with the labour court within three weeks of receiving the notice. After that deadline, the termination is almost always deemed valid. Do not sign anything — especially not a termination agreement (Aufhebungsvertrag) — before having it reviewed, and register with the employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit) without delay.

I received an official letter from the police, a court or an authority that I don't understand.

Do not ignore it. Many German legal documents carry short deadlines — objection periods of two weeks are common for penalty orders and administrative fines. Bring the letter to us (or email a photo); we will tell you plainly what it means, what deadlines apply and what your options are.
